Upcoming Trip: Team #9, November 2011
In November 2011, NepalAbility is sending its 9th interprofessional team to Nepal! We are excited to be providing education and practice focusing on the areas of home modification, community participation, pressure ulcer management and neurodevelopmental treatment approaches for incomplete spinal cord injury and stroke recovery management. In preparation for this trip, we have been able to network with past NepalAbility teams and with our colleagues in Nepal regarding a unified approach to home modifications. We will also be building on the rehab education provided to date by linking it all together with education and a problem solving approach to community participation. We will focus on strategies to achieve social, cognitive, emotional and physical well-being following injury. In addition, we will be reviewing and providing more education and follow up in the area of pressure ulcer management and the use of computerized pressure mapping systems for people in wheelchairs. Finally, we will be offering workshops to enhance practice in the area of neurodevelopmental treatment/ facilitation strategies. We will end our trip by sponsoring and key noting a rehabilitation conference at the Spinal Cord Injury Center (SIRC) in Kathmandu. This team is led by Carol Scovil (Rehab Engineer) and includes Jamie Young (Physiotherapist), Pauline Courcy (Registered Nurse) and Sylvia Haycock (Occupational Therapist).

NepalAbility is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the treatment of people living with a disability in Nepal. Our mission is to support rehabilitation in Nepal by enhancing education, and service among Nepali healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses and therapists. Currently, our activities focus on raising funds to provide on-going mentorship, equipment, continuous education opportunities and teaching in response to the needs of our Nepali partners. Our overall goal is to promote quality of life for patients and families living with disability by supporting sustainable rehabilitation.

Thank you for your generous support!
